Wrapped tightly all around abayas her head, without any softly draping cloth to distract her for the duration of meetings at her tech startup, Dilara Sayeed’s hijab is American in more approaches than one.
Her hijab, or Muslim headscarf, contains a modern, Expert profile that is usually observed during the U.S.
Along with the spirit with which Sayeed, a previous Democratic prospect to the Illinois Home of Associates, wears her hijab is American too. When Sayeed’s Indian-born father questioned her decision to cover her hair at age 19, saying, “You’re in the usa now; you don’t have To accomplish this,” Sayeed’s comeback was the stuff of the highschool civics class:
“It’s for the reason that I’m American which i can decide to go over, Daddy.”
